Irina Werning

Thanks to my friend Luna (who has a great blog of her inspirations you can see HERE ), I've discovered a series of photographies taken by Irina Werning whose website is HERE.
This really makes me laught, this is a very good job.

First step in Adobe Flash

I dedicated this day to learning more about Adobe flash. I think I know the basics now. Here are my first trials.

Self portrait

I wanted to create a first page for my portfolio and for my other blog that I use as a portfolio that you can see HERE :

I thought that the most interesting would be to create an original self portrait, Mark Ronson's "record collection" record coverd inspired me:

Keep calm...

This is a poster I found on the internet that made me laught :

It was an opportunity for me to find out more about this famous "keep calm and carry one" I keep seeing all the time since I arrived in London.

Keep Calm and Carry On was a poster produced by the British government in 1939 during the beginning ofWorld War II, intended to raise the morale of the British public under the threat of impending invasion. It was little known and never used. The poster was rediscovered in 2000 and has been re-issued by a number of private sector companies, and used as the decorative theme for a range of other products. 

Inspirations

This is an add I really like that I saw this morning in the tube.

I think this is very efficient cause it is eyes catching from the first line.
The brand is recognizable thanks to the orange background, but it gives easy jet a new fresh and funny identity.
The text is very wel done and I'd like to see more!

Airside

My new project for this term is in collaboration with a animation company name " airside".

I really like the atmosphere in their animation cause drawings are quite simple but very effective and they've found a way to convey ideas which manly are serious frivolously . The message is clear but has a touch of humour.
My favorite is this one:



After the brief, the two members of airside who where there asked us to pick up tree words in tree different envelops. I came up with this :

From thoses words, we are expected to create a 30 sec animation, a story board or a book. I feel very excited.


At the moment I am researching example of interesting animations, here are my favorites. It doesn't reaaly correspond to my project but the realisation is amazing.

Sir John Soane Museum

Today, I went to Sir John Soane museum in Holborn. Clik HERE to see the website

Sir John Soane was a successful architect born in 1753 who designed this house to live in and also as a setting for his antiquities and works of art.

The most impressive was that it is very hard to understand how the house is made, where you are and where your going. Walls are movable, rooms are changing... This is really hard to describe it but you should really go there cause you feel  very well in the house, as if time had stopped.

Illustrations

Here are some new illustrations I have created, mixing collages from magazines, ink drawings and watercolors.

First step in Collograph

1) Collage
2) I coated my collage with a fluid made of excrements of insects, then put it into a oven to make it become rigid.
3-5) The collage is covered with inks and squeezed with the press.


I realize now that my collage wasn't appropriate to this process, I stuck too many different materials, to close to each other without paying attention to the way the would receive and give back the ink.
This is also important to notice that the result is more interesting with a few ink, because it highlights this embossing of the paper.

London Art Fair.

Today, I went to the LONDON ART FAIR.

I think this is really important as a student in graphic design to be aware of what is currently on the art market, and know the prices of different process.
I was very surprise by some drawing I found very expensive in comparison with the achievement.

Introduction to direct and offset monoprint

Today I had the opportunity to try mono-print.

We first have to spread ink on a plate with a

 roll and put a sheet of paper on it. Then, by 

drawing on the back of it or putting pressure

 on it, the ink stick to the sheet and create a 

very interesting pattern.

Stuff I made

Screen printing

I attended the screen printing introduction today.

This was so different from what I expected:

I thought it was a computer thing !! 

I was surprised in a very good way.

This is a very complicated process which asks a lot of vigilance and patience. 

Preparation of the screen is very important, you have to clean it carefully to remove old coated area with brushes, pressure washer, then degrease, dry it, expose the image to light and so on.

This introduction opened my eyes to thousands of possibilities I am now starting to explore.

Beaubourg

During the holidays I went back to Paris to work  and unfortunately I only had time to go to museum once.

I went to Beaubourg which is a very big and rich museum in the center of paris. 

The architecture of this building is very interesting because Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers who designed it decided to put the skeleton on the front of the building, so that it is visible and recognizible from the outside: air pipes are blue, water pipes are green, electric cables are yellow, elevator are red and metallic girders are visible.

I do really like that fact that all walls are mobiles and fitting to exhibitions. Moreover, the ground floor looks onto the very lively square in front of the museum thanks to picture windows which create interactions between the public, the museum and the passers-by.

Biography: He is a very famous french painter who define in his own way the use of object as pieces of art themselves. He is know for his "accumulations", destruction and recomposition of objects.

My point of view: I really appreciated it because I saw hundreds of every day life objects put together in a way that make them become esthetic and give them a new dimension. Do you believe that old and dirty dentures can create of beautiful piece of art!!?
I also like the way he changes appearances by destroying and burning things.
